Best Cherry Rum Cocktails to Enjoy this Summer
One of our favourite premium rums to use in cocktails is Crooked Eye. Even though it is 40% abv, the authentic flavour profiles are not overwhelmed by the strength of the alcohol.
Their 3 year-old Spiced Cherry Rum is a medium reddish amber Caribbean rum, cask and craft produced in Panama. With delightful fresh bing cherries giving way to pronounced aromas of warm baking spices, and just a slight zest of citrus, it's perfect to enjoy as the base of a refreshing cherry rum cocktail.
Therefore, here are four of our favourite Crooked Eye Spiced Cherry Rum cocktail recipes to enjoy this summer...
1. Crooked Cherry Cola
A simple take on a Cuba Libre, but with a Crooked Cherry twist. A great combination of fruity cherry flavours with molasses and warming spices. Perfect for a summer's evening.
Ingredients:
- 50ml 3 Year-Old Crooked Eye Spiced Cherry Rum
- 150ml Cola
Garnish: A glace cherry and an orange wheel.
Preparation: Fill a chilled highball glass with ice, add the rum and top with the cola. Decorate with the orange and cherry.
2. Crooked Cherry Julep
Crooked Cherry Julep is a simple, refreshing cocktail that offers a boozy way to beat the heat on a hot day. A whisky connoisseur's cocktail, with a crooked rum twist. The Crooked Cherry Julep is a fruity variation of the classic Mint Julep, the perfect way to start a summer's evening.
Ingredients:
- 25ml 3 Year-Old Crooked Eye Spiced Cherry Rum
- 50ml Bourbon
- 1 tbsp Sugar Syrup
- 4 Fresh Cherries
- 6 Mint Leaves
Garnish: Serve with mint sprigs, a fresh cherry, and a straw.
Preparation: Add the sugar syrup, cherries, mint leaves, bourbon, and rum to an empty cocktail shaker. Muddle the cherries and mint leaves to release their flavours. Add ice and shake vigorously.
Half fill a highball glass or whiskey tumbler with crushed ice. Strain the mixture on top of the ice. Top with more crushed ice and serve with mint sprigs and a straw.
3. Crooked Cherry Sour
The Crooked Cherry Sour is a simple, refreshing drink that makes a nice alternative to the Whiskey Sour.
Ingredients:
- 50ml 3 Year-Old Crooked Eye Spiced Cherry Rum
- 25ml Kirsch
- 25ml Peach Schnapps
- 25ml Fresh Lime Juice
Garnish: With a fresh cherry, and a straw.
Preparation: Add all the ingredients to a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake vigorously and strain into a chilled highball glass filled with crushed ice. Decorate with a cherry.
4. Captain Anderson's Cherry Drop
Captain Anderson's Cherry Drop is a summer party shooter, bursting with sweet cherry flavour and an alcoholic bite.
Ingredients:
- 3 Year-Old Crooked Eye Spiced Cherry Rum
- 1 tsp Lemon Juice
- 1 tsp Sugar Syrup
- 1 Glace Cherry
Garnish: With a glace cherry in a sugar-rimmed shot glass.
Preparation: Rub a slice of lemon around the rim of a shot glass and dip it into sugar. Add in the ingredients to the glass and carefully drop the cherry into the drink.
